Nebraska church "gone" after dual Tornadoes

From LCMS News/Articles

“The church is gone. The parsonage is gone, as well as most of the town is gone.” Today LCMS Disaster Response committed $100,000 to help with the relief effort following Monday's dual tornadoes that almost swept the small farming community of Pilger, Neb., off the map, killed two people, injured more than a dozen, damaged dozens of homes, and demolished St. John Lutheran Church and its parsonage. Pilger Nebraska Struck by Tornado. St John Lutheran demolished

Please pray for the members of St John Lutheran and the people of Pilger Nebraska.

From the LCMS Facebook Page

Heavenly Father, as news reports begin to trickle in regarding the devastation and damage a tornado caused just hours ago in Pilger, Neb., we ask for your comfort. While we continue to watch the skies for more severe weather, we also pray for the members of St. John Lutheran Church in Pilger, as early reports indicate the church has been demolished. Show these dear ones your mercy. Calm their fears and worries. Give strength to the first responders and to those who are witnessing this loss. And, above all, cause our brothers and sisters in Christ in Pilger -- and all of us -- to remember that even though it seems that all is laid waste, You alone are our foundation, our Savior, our Redeemer. You have bought us, and we are Yours, and nothing, not even devastation or damage, can keep us from You. In Your holy name. Amen. (Photo courtesy of LCMS Nebraska District)

Comfort Dogs, Including Phoebe from St Paul Ft Worth Deploy to Arkansas

Due to the EF4 Tornado that touched down in Mayflower and Vilonia, Arkansas, on Sunday, April 27, Phoebe and six other K-9 Comfort Dogs from Lutheran Church Charities were deployed to minister to those most affected by the tornado. The team visited over 1,000 children between two elementary schools, and the children as well as the parents and staff were so thankful the dogs could come and help the children feel comfortable about returning to school. In addition to visiting schools, the K-9’s also visited first responders at the hospital and in the sheriff’s remote control facilities. We also individually visited homeowners who would prepare to rebuild for the second time in four years. LCC sent a volunteer chain gang crew as well and we got to see them in action. The city of Conway, Arkansas, declared May 8, 2014 as LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Day, and the Comfort Dog Ministry was given a Key to the City.  God’s mercy and compassion were evident the entire trip and, we give Him the glory for his provision!

A Thank You to the Disaster Care Ministry Bucket Brigade

Last fall the Disaster Care Ministry of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church was ask if we could provide Flood Buckets to assist with the flooding from tropical storms in Southern Mexico. Working with Rev. Ruben Domnguez we delivered 350 buckets to Mc Allen Texas to be taken across the boarder. Last week I received the following message from Pastor Domnguez.

David,
Some pictures are on their way to you.
We had serious problems in getting Flood Buckets across the border into Mexico due to Mexican Customs. We finally were able to send about two thirds of donated Buckets.
The rest were distributed here in South Texas.
Thank you and your congregation for helping in reaching out those in need.
Let me know if you have questions.
     God bless you.

     Rev. Ruben Domnguez
